For the final project, I think it would be interesting to put all of our robot duets in a scene that is more interactive with an audience. I want them to be able to walk around the scene and see it from all angles. In Punjabi (Indian) cinema, many stories open with what is called a ‘mela’ scene, which sets the background and tone for the whole show. In this scene, all the characters are shown to be performing activities in a natural setting, doing what they do best. Some play together, some dance, some perform chores (waving large pieces of cloth back and forth as if drying it, for example), and others simply walk around and enjoy the life around them. In the midst of all this, we have the two main protagonists singled out, a spotlight on both, interacting for what is often the first time. Life around them goes dark and still as the lights focus on the two of them, and thus begins the story.

We can reuse the architecture we have already created here- the interacting robot duets, some shadow play, and even the props we’ve designed. I think it would be interesting to put robotic interactions in an environment where the audience is more easily able to immerse themselves into the art, and this way maybe even feel as if they’re part of this mela scene.
