For this assignment, I wanted to explore how stringy materials travel through relatively restrictive settings. For this, I took a piece of cardboard, punched several holes in it and found a really thick lace. I wove the lace through the cardboard and gently pulled it. I liked how when the lace escaped a hole it would jolt to the next hole and wait to be tugged again. There was quite a bit of resistance for it being so simple and my ordinary house tape barely worked to anchor the side I wasn’t holding. The friction produced can definitely be useful in creating kinetics with fragmented motion in future projects.
