I found this article on Deezen describing dresses with fabrics that contract and change color appearance depending on the wearer’s surroundings, resembling a chameleon’s ability.
The color-changing dress components themselves utilize color sensors, light sensors, and tiny cameras linked to a raspberry PI to gather information about the environmental context. Based on the data, a series of actuators and magnets interlaced with the silicone change the state of the fabrics. The fabrics utilized are iridescent, giving the appearance of changing colors based on the wearer’s environment.
The artist, Ying Gao, has worked on other automated projects such as dresses that light up when someone stares at the wearer and dresses that change in the presence of strangers.
