Push/ Pull Pt2 – Josh and Dayoung
For our Push Pull Part 2 project, we had to look at both of our push and pull objects and brainstorm how to combine these two different objects. We began a process by drawing some sketches of various ideas. As we looked at both of our stuffed objects, we planned to first create something that works as a base, so we decided to make a big U- shaped object that looks somewhat like a gate or door. We wanted our piece to be inviting and interactive, so we then added spikes to the top and hung fabric flaps on the ceiling for people to touch and experience. We also had plans to add additional abstract cube shapes between the legs of the gate, but we realized after construction that there wasn’t enough room for these objects and still allow for someone to walk through the form so we removed these additional objects.
During the critique, we got some interesting comments, some said that it looks like an air mattress and some said automated car wash and festival gate. We didn’t have a specific goal or shape for this project so it was fascinating to hear different interpretations from the class. When people pass through the gate, we realized that it moves the same direction as they walk through since it has really light and unstable. Its instability played well with their interactions. And we were both satisfied with the final object and had fun collaborating on this project.
