Inflatables & Soft Sculpture

Mending – Kat Hua

For my mending project, I decided to revamp a top that I was originally going to donate. I cleaned out my closet last month and haven’t had the chance to donate all the clothes I cleaned out yet because of everything going on with Covid-19 so I picked out a top to improve. I chose a simple light blue sleeveless top and decided to embroider it. I chose to embroider The Beatle’s Abbey Road album cover. I tried to use the stitching to create texture in each person’s body to make the arms and legs and clothes stand out despite all being the same color. I had some trouble at first getting the textures and spacing right in my embroidery but with practice, I eventually got the hang out. I realized that the direction that I chose for the embroidery (horizontal or vertical) also helps to distinguish each body part. Overall, this was a really fun project and I got to end up with a new favorite top.
