My first system was made with the intention of a biomimetic leaf or flower structure. The system splits into multiple sections similar to the petals of a flower or sections of a leaf. I used a natural colored and textured fabric to add to this natural effect.

The second structure I made was inspired by the motion of a sting ray. The system used the pneumatic muscle structure for each “wing” of the structure.

The third and final sculpture attempted a more geometric approach. While similar to the second one, it is instead built with an equilateral triangle where the third point is where the pneumatic tubing enters. For the fabric component of this sculpture, I found that triangles (matching the body’s shape) also highlighted the shimmering texture of the fabric.

One major challenge, I faced with the interaction of the fabrics and the pneumatic structure. The fabric added additional weight that altered the kinetics of the system.
