Computerized Embroidery
The Studio for Creative Inquirery has a computerized embroidery machine. On Tues., Nov. 30 we will visit and use the embroidery machine. To prepare for that visit we will look at preparing files to embroider with the machine.

- PEmbroider
- PEmbroider is an open library for computational embroidery with Processing
- Tutorial video (30 min) for using PEmbroider and the Studio’s embroidery machine

- You will first need Processing in order to use this library.
- Ink/Stitch
- Ink/Stitch An open-source machine embroidery design platform/plugin based on Inkscape. You will need to download Inkscape in order to use Ink/Stitch.
- With Ink/Stitch you can create an image then export it for use with a computerized embroidery machine.
- Series of great beginner tutorials.
- This Workflow video gives a great overview of using Ink/Stitch.
- Extras:
- Embroidery viewer and converter – online viewer allows you to view embroidery files as well as convert an embroidery file to multiple formats.

DUE FOR NEXT CLASS
The following are due at the beginning of class on Tues., Nov. 30:
- Work on your Independent Project & upload a brief update to the blog – begin work on your independent project: collect materials, do research, begin construction, etc. Upload a brief update on your in-progress work onto the class blog. Use category labeled Independent Project. Include an image and a few sentences.
- If you haven’t already: Document your Encoded Cloth by creating one post (as a group) on this website. Categorize your post under “Encoded Cloth from the Future”. Your post should include:
- Images: Using the “tiles” block, upload at an image of your full project and at least 2 close-up images showing more details of your project.
- Written reflection: Write a few paragraphs about your project. Include writing about:
- your process for conceptualizing and making your weaving
- what worked well and why you think it worked well
- what you would improve or change and why
- what you learned through this project and what you might take from this project with you into future projects
