I started working with fabric forms yesterday around the lamp, and was pleasantly surprised at how the fabric, plastic, and lamp interacted to create and restrict movement. The lamp works very well as both the “host” of the parasite and also the stable base of the sculpture, as well as obviously emitting light which is a lot more evocative than I had originally hoped for.
I need to add at least one more chamber to the sculpture, and there’s a lot more work to be done with fabric integration and overall movement. I feel like I’m on the right track in terms of concept and technique though.
