Justaline was not really working for me. I really struggled to make something.
I would like to try and make a structure that someone could potential pass under and look up. THe structure would be of various trees with glass like leaves so that when a person is under it they can see the filtered light from it come through.
I have two ideas in mind (but I’m heavily leaning towards the second direction.)
“Monsters in my room” – A monster appears in the dark crevices of my room — whether it be in my drawers or from under my bed. I think they would be a large rendition of something that would be very small in real life, such as an oversized raisin or a giant toenail.
“Nipples of Venus”* – A fictional story of a person that can’t escape a plump dessert called “Nipples of Venus.” The story begins with the person taking a bite of the dessert at the dinner table. As they move throughout the house, the dessert begins to show up at every part of the house, eventually ending with a bedroom filled to the brim with the dessert.
I want to create a cloud buddy that detects a person and follows them around. The cloud can have two states: a sad one and a happy one. Since a cloud is just a collection of spheres I thing I can make it in Unity with just spheres, but I’m a little more worried about how I’m going to program the rain.
I had a couple of ideas which I was interested in creating an AR sculpture:
Indoor Beach
I’m not entirely sure if this could pass as a sculpture, but I’d be interested in creating a beach that can be stemmed from the corner of a room. I miss California, especially the beaches since COVID-19 required all beaches to be closed, so it’s been a while since I’ve gotten the chance to visit a beach. I figured I could create a realistic sculpture of a palm tree, with a miniature realistic beach that surrounds it.
Outdoor Palm Trees in Pittsburgh
I’m interested in creating a life-size line of palm-trees with leaves that sway in the wind. I would like them to appear on the sidewalks of any given road, and would like them to be as tall as possible. I’m interested in incorporating the idea of the beach as well into the area surrounding these trees.
Sculpture in-between 2 large buildings (Golden Gate Bridge/ Colorful Stream)
Another idea I had was creating an enormous sculpture that exists between my apartment complex and a neighboring apartment complex which I see through my window everyday. Since both apartments are about 20-stories high, I thought it be interested to create a large sculpture that connects both apartment complexes, or is situated so that it connects both of them. Some ideas I had were creating the golden gate bridge, or installing a colorful light stream that flows between both buildings.
I had several ideas for AR projects, though I am not sure how feasible they are. I want to use AR to play with the scale of large structures such as cellphone towers or skyscrapers.
Giant electrical outlet, map asset to planes on building exteriors. User can “plug in” a giant cord into the socket
flying companion. Sort of along the lines of my clock creature, I think it would be cool to have an AR companion that sort of floats around people
The top of the sketch shows a large headless figure running past telephone poles, while its head bounces forward. I think this would be really cool/erie if I could get it to work, however, it would require working across a great depth considering how far apart the poles/towers are
I rarely leave my room so… I thought of the things that I interact with on an average day(my laptop, chair, desk, light switch, etc.) and I imagined blinking/flashing handprints on the areas I interact with the most on an average day. Almost like (!)pings for tasks in a game. Inspired by my very own window:
Spinning coins leads me to my daily morning coffee.
Path of the coins(represented as static circles for now) example:

Just using this as a way to remind myself that even just getting up and making a simple coffee should feel like a reward.
Ghost?
Me + Tree: One Day – a last minute idea just came up(hideous sketch ahead): a figure just lying against a tree in my backyard asleep.
Recently I’ve been having this urge of wanting to go travel somewhere in nature, probably even more due to quarantine and global pandemic where everyone is a potential health threat. Here are two ideas that reflect my want of traveling:
1. Exploring Mountain
Sketch on paper:
Brief Explanation:
I’ve only seen carabiner being used in two situations: rock climbing and bag decoration. I wondered what feelings and thoughts would it evoke in people if they saw it, 50 times its size, floating on a street with other pieces of rock.
Sketch with Just a Line :
In all three attempts of trying to record after somehow figuring out to draw with Just a Line app, the app froze and deleted my drawing…(very unfortunate, especially in a cold weather without gloves) I ended up recording my screen instead of using the built in recorder, but I couldn’t attempt to give another shot for the second idea due to the coldness.
2. Exploring Beach
Sketch on paper:
BriefExplanation:
People would often take a sip of a cold drink, whether it be coffee or orange juice, from a bottle like those. Often it is a drink of their choice that makes them happy. I wondered what would it be like if the bottle that is usually for a drink contained fun beach memory instead. Similar to the previous idea, I intend this to be on a street, about 3-4 feet tall.
My idea is an extension of my pet simulation app for the network project. I tried doing these with justALine but it was difficult to decipher, so I drew some simple sketches here. The idea is very simple, basically at different corners of the house, the user will see different pet related objects on the furniture/floor, with some minor scripted animation, to simulate the experience of actually owning a dog. Does having these items around the house bother you? Or you can not stand its full box of toys beside your beautiful plant? Let’s find out.
For my AR project, I have a few ideas that are just humorous and light-hearted:
Idea #1: Is there bubblegum stuck to your shoe, or is the shoe stuck to the bubblegum?
Following my previous artworks and sculptures that were digitally built, I generally love making organic, bubbled, almost grotesque shapes, so that’s how I would like to construct my chewed bubblegum
The sculpture’s size would be gigantic compared to the shoe that it will on/almost swallowing
I was deciding on the location, and I think either just on a sidewalk (like I just found I stepped on bubblegum) or next to my house’s shoe shelf.
For the programmed action, I’m kinda stumped on this but I was thinking when you get closer, it swallows the shoe whole? Or just disappears when you click it (that’s kinda boring though).
Idea #2: Help! I think there’s a monster haunting me!
Again another organic, bubbly shape
Size: gigantic and bigger than a person
Location: I think just in my home and using my family as my subjects being haunted by this creature
Programmed action: I don’t know if this counts as an action, but I was thinking maybe if you click on it, it makes a weird monster noise. Another idea is swallowing the person.
Problem: I don’t know if it’s possible/if I know how to implement a way to detect a person’s silhouette?
I can see myself having a lot of fun with making a performance for the documentation video with this idea
Sketches: I tried using just a line to sketch my ideas, but it just didn’t work out since my sculpture ideas are all organic shapes
