Welcome! Today we will heat and dye our shibori samples. While that is underway we will meet with each group to discuss your specific, concrete project idea.

The several deadlines and deliverables for the final performance project are now outlined on the project brief.

Shibori – heat-shaping and dyeing silk & polyester

Last class we reviewed shibori binding technique for silk and polyester and each group was assigned the preparation of several samples. Today we will demonstrate the process for heating and dyeing the bound fabric.

Group Meetings

While the shibori treatment is underway, please meet with your group and prepare for a brief discussion. We will circulate and meet briefly with each group.

The critical questions to resolve now: what is the singular concept your group will pursue? What is the specific physical realization you envision? What is the most unknown technique or design element?

Assignment

For Tue Mar 29: construct a physical sample exploring the most critical technical unknowns involved in your piece. Please be prepared to demonstrate in class.
