Pouch motors are printable soft actuators that could be used to mass-produce robots.
- What feature of the work could we specifically evolve into a technique for wearable kinetic sculpture or costume?
Pouches are filled with air in order to create different movements, including linear and rotational movement.
- What details of the artist or concept are not immediately apparent and how do they inform the work?
The movements created by the pounches depend not only on the shape of the pouches, but how other objects are attatched to the pouches, meaning the pouches could be used to create different effects especially when multiple pouches are used together.
- Are there closely related works?
I found this pouch motor that uses heat to cause a liquid in the pouch to vaporize and make the pouch expand, rather than pumping air into the pouch. It is activated by placing the pouch above a cup of hot water.
